This natural rarity with high rocky cliffs (up to 30m) and a specific climate is abound in rare endemic plants. The Greek Juniper forest is absolutely dominant on the island (Juniperetum excelsae) growing on the very rocks. As a result of the biggest semi - dry trunks have been older thab 1000 years. It is spread anly in Kavkas, Iran, Lebanon, Krim, Little Asia and on the Balkans (in Macedonia: the Vardar Valley, he island of Golem Grad and on Galichitsa and Prechna Mountain,Bulgaria and Greece). It is up to 10 - 12m. high and has diameter of 30 - 35 cm. There are trees which are more than 300 years old.

    

   

 

There are 160 species of vasculae plants that belong to 108 genera and 41 families. The south European floral element is presented with 80 species. The Mediteranean and the Sub-Mediteranean elements are surely the most important on the island of Golem Grad. According to ther biological forms, the terofites (that is the annual plants) are dominant on the island. The Hop hornbeam. Macedonian oak and Pubescent oak are rare on the island.

Golem Grad is a rare area which gives unique conditions for development of rare funguses.

The most convinient period for development of ground funguses is autumn (the second half at October).

Besides the plum, memberry trees, dogwood, dogrose and vine, there is a fig tree, as well.
